Auburn jumps Oregon to No. 1 in final AP poll, still second behind Ducks in coaches' poll

Auburn and Oregon both staked claims to the No. 1 spot in the polls this week, a difference they'll settle on the field in the Bowl Championship Series title game in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 10.

The Tigers jumped the Ducks for the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press poll after their SEC championship game rout of South Carolina on Saturday. Auburn got 36 first-place votes to Oregon's 23. Those numbers were flipped last week.

It's the first time the Tigers have been No. 1 in the AP poll since 1985.

Auburn has six victories this season against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. Outside of the SEC West, no other team has more than two.

The Ducks remained No. 1 in the USA Today coaches' poll, although the Tigers closed the gap. Auburn gained 14 first-place votes, bringing its total to 24. Oregon had 34 first-place votes and maintained a 13-point lead in the poll.

The official BCS pairings will be released tonight. The selection show starts at 8:15 p.m. ET.

The Harris Interactive poll, which is part of the BCS formula along with the coaches' poll, will be released later today.

Here's a coaches' poll glance:

I have to account for my admitted bias in favor of the Auburn Tigers. But still, the strength of schedule, the number of ranked opponents we have beaten (now 6 in the top 25 if you count South Carolina twice) seems to warrant being placed above the dead Ducks this time.

Our defense should have dispelled any fears that we are a one dimensonal team. We dominated South Carolina in our conference championship game.

Basically, I like our boue uniforms and would like to wear them in the Natiuonal Championship Game.

USC and UCLA both wore their home jerseys in their game. I see no reason why we can't do the same thing. Who has black and white TV anymore?

I think Oregon should wear all yellow. That'd look good against Auburn's blues.

Oregon had a much wider lead in the Coaches' poll last week, and our far superior computer rankings slipped us past them in the BCS. Unless there's a surprise awaiting in the Harris Poll, Auburn should be solidly #1 in the BCS poll, allowing us choice of uniform.

Hey Andy, I'm sure I won't be the first nor last person to offer his services (and I don't mean that in any kind of pay-for-play context), but even if I can't score a ticket to the championship game, I'll be up there from Sunday through Tuesday, since it's just a couple hours from my house, and a few Auburn buddies are coming in. So let me know if you need anything, eh?!

If anyone is interested, there was a Region's Bank inset in the bags on the back of our seats at the game last night that has a promo code to download the game for free.

Go to secdownloads.com and enter promo code "Regions" at check out and it will take $3.99 off your purchase making the game free. Says it is limited to the first 3,000 downloads.

Hope at least a few Auburn fans see this who would enjoy owning a digital copy of the game!
